The year 2020 has been unpredictable. The pandemic has forced us to adapt to a unique new normal. Everybody chose to postpone all social events at the beginning, but as time goes by it has become clear that missing out or cancelling these events is not an option.
We are all looking at ways to still celebrate landmark events such as prom. To achieve this we are required to think outside the box. Every other spring is marked with various prom events across the United States. With the probability of still having a pandemic during prom 2021 season, ideas to celebrate it even if they are virtual are much in need.
Virtual Prom Slideshow
One of the most iconic parts of prom is the photo sessions you have with friends. It is so because it produces fond memories you can look at years down the line. Once prom is over, all you have left is memories and photographs. For a virtual prom, it would be a good idea to take photos in advance. The process of choosing a background, taking photos and picking out the best ones creates a fun activity to do in preparation.
After everyone has all their photos ready, they can be arranged as a slideshow. A photo viewing session could be organized on the actual prom date as a fun activity for the night. It is advantageous as you get to handpick what photographs get to go on the slide show. You could also take some of these photos and edit them together for couples or groups of friends.
Virtual Prom Theme
Proms usually have themes. The same can be done virtually. The themes range from dress code to backdrop themes. The organizers can choose some of the most affordable options for buying these items so that everybody participates.
A similar arrangement of the background will create a synchronized pattern during the virtual prom event that way everybody’s location contributes to the agreed upon 2021 class prom theme.

An alternative to just a plain dance could be a combination of a sit-down dinner. A plan to have a virtual dinner in the event schedule will allow some time for bonding with peers. This is also an opportunity to promote local businesses and receive discounts on food and drinks. You can order similar meals or different ones from various restaurants as you please. This could also be an opportunity to make class speeches if need be. The attention of the attendees can be grasped during this time.
Virtual Prom Dance
The most important part of prom is the dance. The downside to a virtual prom dance is that you will not be able to be together and hold hands or interact as you are dancing. However, a fun spinoff is having a dance party. This will allow all the individuals present at the virtual prom to share laughs and enjoy good music. A fun class activity before prom night could be to create a playlist together to be used on the day of the actual prom event. This ensures that various tastes of music are offered during the dance party and everybody contributes to the dance music.
Virtual Prom Games
Lastly, some people may not be up for the dance party or they just need a short break. Having a concurrent party games offers a sit-down alternative. People playing virtually against each other with good music at the same time will create a live prom-like feel. An environment filled with excitement and feelings of happiness. Generating such an environment at a virtual prom event is important as it is readily available at physical prom events.
