First of all, I am not claiming something shady did indeed happen with Khamzat Chimaev’s missed weight or that the UFC planned this. I want to say that disclaimer before the UFC and Uncle Dana come and sue me. However, I am aloud to speak my mind and give my opinion since it is a free country as Dana so often says.
Being a longtime boxing fan I see a bunch of shady stuff go down with bigtime fights often. From horrific judging to biased athletic commissions, I seen it all. Boxing is shady and this whole UFC 279 missed weight fiasco reminds me a lot of boxing’s shady behind the scenes drama. I can ramble on about this topic but I want to keep this short and sweet so I’m going to get right to it.
“That was like 4 o clock at night, (so) that’s a lot of time, they didn’t let me” Khamzat told Megan Olivi. Now that sounds shady AF.
Why wouldn’t the UFC let Khamzat try and make weight until weigh-in time for the biggest fight of his career?
While I can provide my own take on what possibly could have happened, I am going to post YouTube user 04mzwach’s comment instead since he seems to have thought about this for a long time:
Another possible scenario that 04mzwach missed is the fact that UFC was afraid of an upset. Can you imagine Nate Diaz beating UFC’s biggest rising star and then leaving to start a rival promotional company with Real Fight Inc.? Shane summarized this scenario perfectly:
Or maybe Khamzat really was having a bad weight cut and the UFC was simply protecting his health. Who knows.
What do you think really happened?
