If you are into hip hop or fashion, odds are you have heard the name Don C or of his clothing brand, Just Don. If you’ve heard about him, but really want to know more about the man and his brand, you’re in the right place!
Before he was known as Don C, he went by Don Crawley. Don Crawley is from Chicago, Illinois and got his first big break being the manager for the Chicago icon, Kanye West. Don C became an executive at G.O.O.D Music and the two were such good friends that Don C was Kanye’s best man when he married Kim Kardashian in 2014.
You may remember hearing about Don C back in 2008 when he made the news by getting arrested with Kanye at the Los Angeles International Airport when they got into a fight with paparazzi. By taking and breaking a camera of a paparazzi member they were charged with vandalism, grand theft, and battery. Luckily, they did not get the potential five year sentence they were facing and instead got 50 hours of community service each.
In 2011, Don C started his streetwear brand Just Don. He has been able to make great connections with the right people and in doing so has been able meet his idols and collaborate with billion dollar companies.
One of the most notable collaborations from Don C are his collaborations with Jordan brand. To say that Don C is a Michael Jordan fan would be the understatement of the century. He can tell you what shoe Jordan wore in every big game of his career. You can sense a real feeling of pride when he talks about what it has been like to grow up in Chicago and work with his idols.
Almost all of the designs from Just Don are sports inspired and in my opinion show his real love for the 80s and 90s eras of the NBA. As you scroll through the Just Don Instagram account, everything from the profile photo to the pictures of his products, old baseball cards, and music posts, give off a retro vibes feeling.
Don C’s latest hat collection has been the latest cultural phenomenon he has had part in. Just Don has been selling baseball caps made out of lamb skin, python leather, and a gold buckle. If that sounds expensive, it is. The Just Don hats are currently selling for $450 on the Just Don webstore.
Beware if you plan on purchasing one of these hats. Their site recommends that you keep the hat out of direct sunlight and away from water. Perhaps that is a true testament to the strength of the Just Don brand. If you can sell a hat that shouldn’t be used in the conditions people normally wear a hat for to the tune of $400, you’ve built a strong brand.
As I mentioned before, Don C has a true wealth of knowledge about sports, fashion, entertainment, distribution, connection to famous people and has been able to turn all of his passions into a successful life. I think whether you like his designs or not, you have to admire anyone living out their dreams and creating the products they want to see on the market!
