In the wake of George Floyd’s death and Black Live Matter protests, many brands and companies have come out publicly support to the African-American community. Another company to step up to the plate and support the black community is crowd-sourced reviews company Yelp.
Yelp has just announced plans to develop a new functionality on its platform that would allow businesses to identify as ‘Black-owned‘. The new functionality was announced by CEO Jeremy Stoppelman in a recent blog post. The feature is going to allow Yelp users to search for Black-owned businesses.
In addition to the new ‘Black-owned business’ feature, Yelp is going to donate $500,000 USD to the Equal Justice Initiative and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
