Kanye West, the newly announced billionaire recently made headlines when he said that he had his eye set on the cosmetics industry. This shouldn’t be much of a surprise since cosmetics seems to be somewhat a rite of passage in the KarJenner/West family. Seems like Kylie keeps inspiring new members of her family to join the cosmetics business each year. The idea of owning a cosmetics/beauty line may not be entirely new to Kanye. Back in 2017, Kanye filed some paperwork to launch a beauty line (Donda Cosmetics) named after his late mother Donda West, which didn’t pan out at the time.
Well, now that Kanye has some newly found fortune, it seems like he would like to give cosmetics another try. There’s a lot of talks right now about the launch of Yeezy cosmetics, (which hopefully would happen very soon) and fans can’t help but wonder whether or not Kanye’s new venture will turn out to be his sister in law’s biggest competition.
Will Yeezy Cosmetics Be in Direct Competition With Kylie Cosmetics?
According to reports, West filed a trademark for beauty products that are mostly different from what Kylie is selling at Kylie Cosmetics. Kylie is best known for her lip kit, blush, and recently, due to her collaboration with her sister Kendall, eyeshadow. West on the other hand intends to sell face masks, nail polish, false eyelashes, bath gels, body oils, shaving cream, makeup, among other beauty products. Kanye also intends to sell Yeezy branded scented pine cone and aromatherapy pillows, something we thought was quite interesting.
Does Yeezy Cosmetics Have the Potential to Become More Popular Than Kylie Cosmetics?
Well, maybe. Kanye has proven to be quite the go-getter when it comes to business and the other things, he sets out to achieve. When Kanye first launched Yeezy sneakers, they sold out in 12 short minutes; which is an impressive amount of time; just not as good, compared to Kylie’s first product launch. Kylie’s lip kit sold out in 60 sec after being launched; an insanely impressive timeline.
People could argue that some of Kylie’s success in the beauty business comes from the affordability of her products. One of Kylie’s lip kits retails for only $29. We aren’t sure what the pricing would be for the beauty products under Yeezy Cosmetics but judging from West’s history of selling luxe items (Yeezy boosts retail for about $200 a pair), his beauty products may not be in the affordable price range.
Both Kylie and Kanye are successful business people but I don’t think the two beauty brands or companies will clash at all. The Karjenner and West family are known for finding ways to make their businesses complement each other.
In Conclusion…
Over the years, Kanye has shown the world that he’s got what it takes to build a successful business from the ground up. I for one, can’t wait to see how this new business pans out. It also wouldn’t surprise me if indeed Yeezy Cosmetics outsells Kylie cosmetics ♦
