Due to his unexpected death this past Sunday (November 28, 2021), the spring/summer 2022 collection was the last collection Virgil ever designed as the first Black artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton.
To honor his life and legacy, Louis Vuitton decided to unveil the collection with a special presentation in Miami, Florida. The event and runway show had already been planned and designed by Virgil. Louis Vuitton received the designer’s family approval before going ahead with the show.
The collection was ultimately renamed “Virgil Was Here” to honor his passing and time at Louis Vuitton. Watch Virgil Abloh’s final finished collection below.
