The University of California system has just signed a system wide executive order that will mandate students, faculty, and staff to get a flu vaccine. The order requires students to get the vaccine before November 1st.

The mandatory flu vaccine executive order is supposedly to help relieve the health care system during the upcoming fall and winter flu season amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

UC officials said in regards to the order:

“In addition to protecting those on campuses and the surrounding communities, this requirement is designed to avoid a surge of flu cases at health care facilities across the state during the unprecedented public health crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.”

UC officials say they are adding the flu shot to the existing immunization policy for students.

The University of California system has 9 campuses and over 200,000 students enrolled across the state of California.

UC officials said they will reveal more information regarding the new mandatory flu vaccine policy in the coming weeks.

Many people believe the California State University system will be next to implement the mandatory flu vaccine policy.
