Twitter loves to dig up random things from the past and shed light on them in the present day. Today on the Twitter hot seat is legendary music producer Timbaland. Timbaland is currently trending on Twitter for a recent viral video that shows three of Timbaland’s classic hits clearly sampling Middle Eastern songs.
Some people have no issues with it as they see sampling as part of the music production process. Others blatantly accuse Timbaland of stealing from Middle Eastern culture.
On official song credits for those three tracks shown in the video (Big Pimpin’, More Than a Woman, I Don’t Know What to Tell Ya’) Timbaland does in fact credit them. Nevertheless, some people still accuse the music producer for blatantly “stealing” from Middle Eastern music.

Everyone knows @Timbaland is a master of his craft. Did you know these three hits sampled these Arabic classics? 🎧 To hear more about the Middle Eastern influence in Western mainstream music (that was once called “Belly dance music”) head to my Plus 1 Radio show on Soundcloud pic.twitter.com/kCetOo6ONH
