For this week’s #ThrowbackThursday, we take a look at one of the most hyped and sought-after pieces in Supreme history. Every year, Supreme releases one piece from their collection which grabs the attention of the entire streetwear community. In 2010 the most sought-after piece was the Thunderbird Jersey. On the front was an infamous logo of the Thunderbird, and on the back the number 10 (for the year) with SUPREME as the jersey’s name. Originally releasing in two colours (white and black), this jersey was one of the rarest piece in Supreme history. Originally, it was not envisioned to be as exclusive as it emerged to be.
Presented as part of their Fall/Winter collection, the Thunderbird Hockey Jersey was brought to national attention when Frank Ocean performed on Saturday Night Live in the Southwestern-inspired piece. Immediately after Frank Ocean was seen nation-wide rocking this piece, a new trend began for streetwear. The value of this jersey went up to 750$ resell on websites such as Grailed.com
A perfect combination of a familiar athletic silhouette with emblem to match, it was nice to have a Supreme piece that didn’t rely on a high-profile collaboration. This jersey has been describes as the final piece before “the Supreme effect” was invented. After 2010, majority of the major releases Supreme put into the market were highly anticipated collaborations with brands such as Champion, COMME des GARÇONS, and Nike.
We looked and looked, but could not find any of these jerseys for sale on Grailed and StockX. We found one here on Ebay, but that was the only one we could find. Majority of these jerseys have been bought by wealthy collectors and various affluent celebrities who can pay top dollar for these jerseys. Do not expect to find another non-collaboration piece from Supreme that has the influence, demand, and story this jersey actually has.
