Things to Know About Supreme’s New San Francisco Store

Background

Supreme has been teasing fans for about a year now regarding a new store opening somewhere in the state of California. On October 24th, Supreme officially opened their new store in San Francisco. The entire launch was extremely quiet, with the company confirming the opening only earlier in the week.

The San Francisco store would mark Supreme’s fourth store in the United States. The store also broke the company records for the least amount of time between the opening of two locations. The timeline for the openings are as follows: Manhattan store opening in 1994; Los Angeles store opening in 2004; and the Brooklyn location opening in 2017.

The Carlyle Group joining the Supreme investment team in October 2017 could be the reason for the two year hiatus between Brookyln and the new San Francisco store. Since the brand’s overall strength lies in the scarceness of their items, avid customers are hoping that new stores do not eventually open up across the United States. However, Supreme’s Japanese stores reached a total of six stores fairly quickly, so it would not be something to dismiss just yet.

Location

Supreme’s new store is located at 1015 Market Street in San Francisco. It is located in the market area of the city, which also mirrors the neighborhood of the company’s four other locations: it’s located in a central area, but not on a main street. Thrasher Magazine’s store is also nearby.

Announcement

The company had announced the store address in April 2019, after inviting locals to a meet and greet to answer any questions they might have.

Supreme also advertised themselves in the San Francisco Chronicle, which showed a photo of the skater Pablo Ramirez, who was part of the San Francisco skate crew GX1000 and died in 2019. The store address was also given alongside his picture.

Opening Day

The first day in business for the Supreme San Francisco store was Thursday, October 24, 2019. There was a party held for close friends and family members at this occasion.

This private party began at 6pm, and the Supreme founder James Jebbia hosted the occasion. The entire Supreme skate team was also present. Streetwear enthusiasts Paul Mittleman, Termaine Emory, and Eddie Cruz were in attendance as well as some top notch skateboarders from the San Francisco area like Julien Stranger, Tommy Guerrero, and John Cardiel. Another party was held that night at The End Up in the downtown part of the city.

Size

The store is located in 4,500 square foot space with a balcony area on the second level that is about 1,000 square feet. To get a feel of how large this location is, you could compare it with the Brooklyn store’s 3,000 square feet location. The inside has a look that is similar in nature to the Los Angeles and Brooklyn stores. There is also a ramp and sculpture inside that was built by Supreme team member Mark “Gonz” Gonzales.

On an episode of The Nine Club with Chris Roberts, it was announced that former professional skater Reese Forbes would be the manager of this store. Roberts had traveled with the Supreme executive team from location to location for 10 months to train for this position.

CANDYLAND Video

A skate video located in San Francisco was released on October 24, 2019, and was titled CANDYLAND. This was released to promote the opening of the new store. The video was filmed by a Supreme frequent collaborator William Strobeck. The skaters featured in the video include Sage Elsesser, Aidan Mackey, Jason Dill, Kader Sylla, Matt Finley, Sea Pablo, Tyshawn Jones, and others.

In the beginning of the video, it is said that the CANDYLAND film would be dedicated to Pablo Ramirez, who was a member of the San Francisco skate crew GX1000. He had passed away in April 2019.

Box Logo Design

At the opening of every new location, the brand usually releases a box logo design only available at the first item drop in the store. One of the most popular past designs was a Union Jack box logo for the London store. There was also the Hebrew box logo at the Los Angeles location, which gives respect to the Jewish community in the Fairfax area. As always, the Supreme San Francisco box logo sold out in minutes.

Hours

The hours of operation for the store are Monday through Saturdays from 11am to 7pm, and on Sundays from 12am to 6pm.
