Why Are The Weeknd and Rolling Stone Beefing?

The Weeknd is typically not one to beef or get into back and forths, but it seems like Abel has time for Rolling Stone. The popular media outlet has a lot of influence, but The Weeknd doesn’t seem to care and decided to go right at them. Let’s take a look at why The Weeknd and Rolling Stone are feuding.

How It Started

The Weeknd and Rolling Stone are beefing over the HBO series “The Idol,” which The Weeknd co-produced with Sam Levinson and Lily-Rose Depp. The beef started when Rolling Stone published an article claiming the show is in turmoil and “has gone wildly, disgustingly off the rails” among many other things. The article cites thirteen sources who claim the show is in trouble before it even gets premiered.

The article also paints the set of “The Idol” as unorganized with “divisions among Levinson’s inner circle” and production staff in constant confusion. You can read the Rolling Stone article here.

The Weeknd’s Response

Rolling Stone’s article bashing “The Idol” ended up going viral and garnering lots of attention so The Weeknd felt the need to respond. Not one for many words, The Weeknd responded with a social media post previewing an unreleased scene from “The Idol” where his character Tedros bashes Rolling Stone calling the publication “irrelevant”.

What Comes Next?

There is no telling why Rolling Stone attacked the show in the first place. Perhaps the publication saw the scene beforehand and decided to strike first…who knows. The Weeknd has appeared on many Rolling Stone covers in the past, but our guess is he will no longer be working with Rolling Stone in the future.

HBO’s “The Idol” does not have a premier date yet, but this drama has definitely built up hype for the show.
