‘The Marvels’ Has the Worst Opening Weekend Ever for Any MCU Film

‘The Marvels’ fell short of soaring higher, faster, or further during its opening weekend, raking in a modest $47 million domestically. This marks the lowest debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s extensive 30-plus-film history.

The film was first predicted to bring in between $75-80 million, which later dwindled to $60-65 million.

Despite lackluster domestic performance, the film earned $63.3 million internationally, reaching a global total of $110.3 million. Analysts highlight the significance of the international market for the Marvel brand.

In terms of critical reception the filmed received 62% on Rotten Tomatoes but a more favorable 85% audience score.

Facing challenges in drawing viewers, Disney acknowledged the struggle, and CEO Bob Iger previously announced plans to scale back the studio’s Marvel slate this year. The movie’s success now depends on the Thanksgiving holiday attendance to propel it towards profitability.
