Fairfax is the mecca of streetwear. While there are many streetwear shops all over the world and a variety of great fashion shopping districts such as New York’s SOHO, for streetwear there is nothing quite like Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles, California. The vibe that exists on Fairfax is the epitome of what streetwear is all about. In addition, all of the streetwear giants have planted their flag on this now legendary and iconic street. While there are many great shops on Fairfax, the following streetwear shops are staples of the area and are a must visit whenever you go shopping in Los Angeles, California.
424 on Fairfax
424 on Fairfax has worked with huge names in the entertainment industry. They’ve worked with artists such as Justin Beiber, Travis Scott, A$AP MOB, and Long Beach native, Vince Staples. 424 is definitely a streetwear shop on Fairfax Avenue you have to visit because everything within that store is held and created at a high standard. Their premium clothing items gather inspiration from New York City and Paris. They opened up the streetwear shop on Fairfax in 2010, and have continued to stay true to who they are. It’s been nine years and they have proven to keep up with the times as their shop is still alive and well on Fairfax while others have disappeared. FourTwoFour on Fairfax is definitely a Fairfax legend store that you must visit.
Golf Wang
Tyler, The Creator’s Golf Wang store can be seen at the edge of Fairfax Ave., right across from Supreme. If you’re ever in the area, Golf is definitely a streetwear shop on Fairfax you NEED to visit. If you’ve been around the scene, you should know that Tyler and his crew, Golf Wang, have been hanging out on Fairfax right outside these streetwear shops before they were even famous! This is partially why Fairfax has become the go-to place for streetwear. Once Tyler started to go global, people started to become attracted to his place of leisure. Golf brings in the true Fairfax and Melrose scene right into their clothes. This is hands-down the streetwear shop on Fairfax you should visit if you want to see a product of Fairfax that grew up on the street then went on to become a global phenomenon and returned to their roots!
Diamond Supply
Before Supreme became captain of the streetwear brands, Diamond Supply was making heavy waves and even lead the streetwear scene at one point due to its massive popularity. Still a giant on the scene, Diamond Supply has a huge two story floor store on Fairfax. Diamond Supply is a true OG in the streetwear scene and was constantly worn by Kanye West at one point. If you would like to know the complete story of Diamond Supply Co. check it out here. Nick Diamond, the founder of Diamond Supply, said when he opened the store, “When I first opened the Diamond store, I was worried if anyone would shop there.” Fast forward a decade later and Diamond Supply is still going strong.
The Hundreds
Another true legend and OG in the streetwear scene, The Hundreds is also located on Fairfax Avenue. The Hundreds was first located on Rosewood Avenue, but for its 15th anniversary, The Hundreds moved to the grand stage corner store on Fairfax Avenue. Bobby (founder of The Hundreds) said of the historic move, “We turn 15 this year, which is like 250 in streetwear years.” The Hundreds was founded back in 2003 and is a true legend in streetwear. Pay your respect and make sure to stop by The Hundreds store on Fairfax and purchase some gear.
Supreme
Last but certainly not least, the brand of all brands when it comes to streetwear, none other than Supreme is located on Fairfax Avenue. Supreme was the very FIRST streetwear brand to set its flag on Fairfax. Supreme’s store along with cheap rent (at the time) created the ripple effect to help create Fairfax the mecca of streetwear that is today. In the words of Chris Gibbs, “They (Supreme) established that block. Then all the streetwear brands started to follow their lead.” Supreme even has a mysterious promotional wall further up the street that is simply a blank wall with the Supreme box logo on it. The wall is a subtle statement letting everybody know, ‘this is our block’. The store per usual gets super packed and generates lines all throughout Fairfax whenever rare drops are released. After you visit all the other stores on this list, make sure you stop by the iconic Supreme store.
While there are many more great stores on Fairfax such as Huf, DOPE, RIPNDIP, Pink Dolphin, and others, the five stores mentioned on this list are the true giants of the block and helped make Fairfax what it is today. Whether you grew up in the area and attended Fairfax High School or are visiting Los Angeles, California from across the world, don’t forget to stop by Fairfax and support these stores to help keep streetwear alive!
