On March 31 2019, the world lost not only a rapper, but an overall great man. News of his death came as a shock to his fans, his community, and the entire music industry. People’s reaction to Nipsey Hussle’s death was a clear indication of just how beloved he was.
People who knew Nipsey well spoke of his selfless acts to his community and how he was always trying to give back. There were some unfinished projects Nipsey was working on before his death. Let’s take a look at some of these projects.
Puma Sportswear Collaboration
Puma sportswear had a collaboration with Nipsey before his untimely death. There was a line of shoes in the works and it was not yet released by the time Nipsey passed away. Puma confirmed that the project would still go on in honor of his memory.
To ensure that the journey continues, the company promised to continue to work closely with Nipsey’s estate and family. His partnership with Puma was a clear indication of accomplishment in culture. Before the Puma partnership, Nipsey always represented the brand by always donning their sweat suits and sneakers.
Since Nipsey Hussle’s death, Puma has gone on to collaborate with Nipsey’s partner at the time of his passing, Lauren London.
Joint Album With Rapper Meek Mill
The death of Nipsey came shortly after revealing he had an upcoming album with rapper Meek Mill. The project was set to drop back in the summer of 2019 but was put on hold. Meek tweeted recently that they never got to finish some of the songs, “We never finished it…It’s songs left but they for his family!” This explained the delay in its release to the public.
Still, the tweet kept hope alive that the album will be completed soon. The unfinished songs were sent to his family. The parties involved opted not to release an incomplete album. It’s now up to the family to release the songs.
Film on Dr. Sebi’s AIDS Trials in 1985
One of Nipsey’s anticipated projects was a film about Dr. Sebi. Dr. Sebi was a herbalist born in Honduras who claimed to have the cure for AIDS. He faced legal implications due to this. The New York state charged Dr. Sebi for practicing medicine without a license. Despite this being a criminal offence, jurors in his trial acquitted him claiming the state failed to make a compelling case against him.
Nipsey was working on the set of the film about Dr. Sebi’s AIDS trial before he died. What made this film a potential block buster was the fact that there was plenty of speculation surrounding the death of Dr. Sebi in March 2016. The official record stated that he was under police custody when he passed away from complications brought on by pneumonia. One of the major theories wash that Dr. Sebi was murdered by big PHARMA in a bid to stop a cure of AIDS.
Nick Cannon, American rapper and actor, pledged to continue the film project shortly after news of Nipsey’s death hit the airwaves. Nick made it clear that the project would not die on his watch as he would take over from where the rapper left off.
Nick Cannon recently released the trailer for the documentary.
