The COVID-19 pandemic has shut down all major fashion department stores. As the coronavirus swept throughout the nation, states were forced to shut down all “non essential” businesses. However, many areas that have flattened the curve have now began reopening all businesses.
Macy’s has just announced that it will reopen 68 U.S. stores today, Monday, May 4th. Macy’s then plans to reopen more stores one week after on May 11th, with plans to reopen all of its remaining stores by mid June. The first wave of reopenings, will be in Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Oklahoma. Macy’s CEO Jeff Gennette stated that he expects the first round of stores reopening to only bring in sales of one-fifth the normal volume.
