Fashion is a career that many spend their whole lives striving for. Finding the right college with the best program is vital in ensuring your success as this is an incredibly challenging and competitive field to get into. Loyola Marymount University was founded in 1911 and is a top-ranked university. They offer students a diverse community that provide the best opportunities for intellectual growth and creativity. Committed to Roman Catholicism, the university takes inspiration from combined heritages.
While Loyola Marymount University offers over sixty majors and fifty minor degrees, the LMU fashion program is nonexistent, and there are no fashion majors. However, they do provide a legal program through Loyola Law School that teaches laws surrounding fashion. There is also an on-campus club called Fashion Society.
LMU occasionally offers special events regarding fashion and design. One example of fashion programs they have performed in the past is the Fashion Intensive Program. It was a one-week program offered back in 2015 made to train students in the fashion industry, professionals in the industry, or lawyers in the industry to understand how the law affects fashion and how the business side of fashion works.
Another event that they offered in the past was the ‘Dress for Success Fashion Show’ that highlighted how you should dress for different work environments. It was a helpful event for LMU students because entering the workforce can be a daunting task, and what you wear can have a significant impact on whether you get the job and whether or not you keep the job. Through this show, students learned the dos and don’ts of the industries they were trying to break into.
One of the most successful fashion initiatives at LMU besides the fashion show and law program was the Costume History and Fashion course. The course focused on the cultural expression of the Western style. The course was designed to understand different clothing modes, trade, cultural conditions, and more. Students also got to have dress-up days where they created and presented a fashion collection that would be worn a decade from now as their final exam. The course was offered in the 2014-2015 school year.
While LMU doesn’t have a fashion program, they do care about helping students interested in fashion learn more about the industry through courses, seminars, and their law program.
