The internet is filled with marketplaces where people go to purchase authentic products such as StockX, Grailed, and even eBay. Unfortunately, the internet can be a dangerous place and often times fakes are presented as authentic pieces.
Such was recently the case when the leading online marketplace for art called Artsy was selling some fake KAWS art pieces.
Artsy had listed two fake KAWS pieces presented as real for a whopping price of $35,000-$40,000 each. The two pieces were being sold by One Martine Gallery.
Fortunately, KAWS caught wind of the listings and took to Instagram to call out Artsy for listing the fake pieces.
While the listings were taken down, the incident is an important reminder to be cautious when purchasing items on the internet.
