Bianca Landrau, stage name BIA, is an American singer, rapper, and songwriter of Puerto Rican descent. Bia who is originally from Medford, MA, grew up around battle rappers who later became famous. The singer spent most of her time in the studio, listening to her friends record their music. In a certain interview with Oxygen, Bia talked about her early years when she would hit the record button for the other rappers. Bia told oxygen that she had started writing music by the age of 12, but kept it a secret till later on. Here are six interesting facts about the rising rapper-singer:
BIA Survived a Nearly Fatal Accident
In 2013, a drunk motorcycle driver crashed into Bia and a group of her friends. Bianca told oxygen.com that it was after this incident that she seriously wanted to pursue a career in hip-hop.
She Was Discovered Through YouTube
Fam-Lay, stage name ‘Fam’, discovered BIA’s talent on YouTube and decided to reach out to her. After a few meetings, BIA decided to let Fam manage her music career. Fam is still BIA’s manager today.
She Is Signed to Pharrell’s Label
BIA began networking after she saw the potential in her career. Fam and BIA started making some calls to people in the hip hop industry who could potentially help jump start Bianca’s music career. In an interview with boston.com, the Cover Girl singer said she flew to Miami after a month of trying to find an industry connection and it was on this trip to Miami, that she met the Grammy Award winner Pharrell Williams. Pharrell listened to BIA’s work, and he must have liked it because BIA is currently signed to Pharrell’s label, i Am Other.
She Was a Cast Member of Sisterhood of Hip Hop
BIA was one of 5 female rappers featured on Oxygen’s Sisterhood of Hip Hop show. The singer/rapper was already signed to Pharrell’s label by the time she went on the show. BIA was very determined to prove to people that she had what it took to win the hearts of people through her music. In an interview with boston.com, BIA said that people tend to underestimate Boston’s ability to produce great music or great artists. The 28-year-old singer and rapper intended to represent her home town in the best possible light during her time at the reality tv show.
Rihanna Endorsed One of Her Tracks
A few months ago, Russ and BIA released a song together, ‘Best On Earth’ and they got a co-sign from Rihanna. The Rihanna reference in the song may have been what caught the Fenty owner’s attention. Rihanna mentioned the song in one of her Instagram posts where she thanked both Bia and Russ for producing what she called, her ‘new favorite song’. And just like that, the track, ‘Best On Earth’ surged up the charts overnight. Russ promised his viewers on YouTube a proper video for the song because, at the time, it was only in audio format.
She Was Featured in Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman Tour
During Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman Europe Tour, BIA was one of the main supporting acts. BIA performed a song called ‘Esta Noche’, which featured Ariana Grande during her opening set for the Dangerous woman tour in Europe. BIA was also present to open for a couple of dates during the North American leg of the tour.
Bia Has Worked With a Lot of ‘Big’ Names in the Music Industry
