The Weeknd’s Super Bowl LV halftime performance was one of the best Super Bowl halftime performances in recent memory. It was reported that The Weeknd spent $7 million dollars out of his own pocket for the performance to live up to expectations.
The performance consisted of some of The Weeknd’s latest hits such as “Blinding Lights” and songs from his very first mixtape House of Balloons. The halftime performance was well received by fans and critics alike.
During the performance, Abel wore his popular red suit After Hours themed outfit designed by Givenchy Creative Director Matthew M. Williams. The outfit took about 250 hours to complete and was covered with thousands of ruby crystals. In speaking to Vogue about the design process, Matthew revealed:
“[The Super Bowl] is such an incredible platform. For sports, but also for arts, music and fashion…To me, as a designer, the part of discovering what those [halftime show] looks are going to be is the most thrilling.”
