Facebook Changes Parent Name Meta

@zuck

Mark Zuckerberg has decided to change the name of the company that is known as Facebook, Inc. to Meta. While the Facebook platform itself will still be known as Facebook, the parent company that now owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp is now officially called Meta.

The decision to change the name is Zuckerberg’s ambition to transcend social media and build a company that creates a universe which blends online, virtual, and augmented realities which is a concept he refers to as metaverse.

Mark said of the name change and concept:

“We believe the Metaverse will be the successor to the mobile internet…We’ll be able to feel present like we are right there with people no matter how far apart we actually are. We’ll be able to express ourselves in new joyful, completely immersive ways.”

Facebook, Inc. will begin trading on the stock market with the stock ticker MVRS starting December 1, 2021.
