One of the most impactful musicians of any genre officially passed away just a few minutes ago. After having limited brain function due to deprivation of oxygen for 30 minutes after his drug overdose, DMX was placed on life support in a New York hospital. DMX had been on life support for the past week.
An official statement from a family representative said:
“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end.”
DMX sold over 23 million records throughout his career and is one of the most passionate musicians the world has ever seen. DMX is one of the highest selling hip-hop artists ever. Despite his drug addiction and troubled past, DMX lived a life of content knowing his music impacted millions of people. He was 50 years old.
