Despite its rich history in the animated films sector, Disney delivered a rare flop with its latest ‘Strange World’ offering.
The animated film had a reported budget of $180 million, but had a poor box office opening of $18.6 million over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday window. The film was expected to earn between $30 to $40 million during the holiday weekend but now the film is expected to lose around $100 million.
The film was met with a lot of controversy as ‘Strange World’ is the first animated film to feature a gay main character. If the current ticket sales pace continues, it will be one of the biggest theatrical flops in Disney’s rich movie history.
