Yes. I just coined a new term. It is called “Face Mask Fashion” and that is exactly the fashion trend COVID-19 has started. As governments all across the world mandate its citizens to wear face masks, slowly but surely not so ordinary face masks are beginning to pop up.
It is in the nature of many to stand out. As millions of individuals wear an ordinary plain face mask to protect themselves from COVID-19, a few individuals have begun to take it a step further and have turned the face mask mandate into a fashion statement. I mean just look at the new face mask of Tair Marassulov below..

As more and more unique face masks begin to be worn, these face mask fashion “trendsetters” are only encouraging others to follow suit. Just like a cool pair of shoes or exotic accessory encourage others to say to themselves “I want one!”, so too will people begin to say that about a cool face mask soon enough.
Who wants to be basic? Most people don’t. As a cause of this pandemic, face mask wearing is becoming the new normal. It is no longer looked upon as something silly or overdramatic to wear a face mask in public as a result of COVID-19. As face mask wearing becomes the new normal, those seeking to stand out will begin to ramp up their face mask designs instead of wearing the plain old white 3M masks most folks are. I mean…who wants to wear a plain white face mask? That’s so basic. See where I’m going with this?
Even before the COVID-19 pandemic started, many in the streetwear industry were already beginning to create some really cool face masks made out of hard to find sneakers and other unique materials. The COVID-19 epidemic will only encourage people to take it a step further. So don’t be surprised when Kanye West announces he will be selling his own YEEZY face masks.
Just by scrolling through online retailers you begin to see a trend of what is selling most when it comes to face masks. Let’s take a look at online retailer giant Amazon. In the beginning, Amazon was sold out of 3M masks as it was more about safety than nothing else. But now sells are beginning to indicate its about standing out as well.

Only time will tell how the coronavirus COVID-19 epidemic will play out. Some believe the COVID-19 epidemic is not as serious as many media outlets are portraying it while others such as Dr. Fauci are claiming COVID-19 and other viruses will begin to be seasonal and part of the new normal. Nobody knows for sure, but one thing I can guarantee you is that when mandated quarantines begin to end and public spaces begin to open, face masks will still be worn by some individuals. Don’t expect some of these face masks to be just plain white face masks either.
