aGOODoutfit.com had the awesome opportunity to interview Kaelin Davis, the founder and designer of the new up and coming streetwear brand LXRY APPVREL. Unlike most streetwear brands, LXRY APPVREL is focusing on premium garments such as quality suede bomber jackets, parkas and flannels as opposed to your typical tees and hoodies. Check out what the Atlanta, Georgia native had to say about the brand’s current status, inspirations and future endeavors…
When was LXRY APPVREL officially launched?
Kaelin: Early 2013.
When designing new items…where do you gather inspiration from?
Kaelin: I’m a movie person, If I had time to watch 3 movies a day, I so would. I get a lot of ideas from movies. Some new but I appreciate a lot of the older movies with baggier silhouette’s.
In terms of designers and brands, what are some of the people you respect and look up to?
Kaelin: Currently? Definitely Rhuigi Villasensor (RHUDE), Shane Gonzalez (MIDNIGHT STUDIOS), Virgil Abloh (OFF-WHITE), Jerry Lorenzo (FEAR OF GOD) right now. The underdogs.
Do you intend to put LXRY apparel merchandise in retail stores? Or will it remain a web shop?
Kaelin: Web shops are cool but growth is essential..LXRY APPVREL will definitely be in retail stores in the future. We’re currently gearing up to distribute to a boutique in Lenox Mall which is located in Atlanta / Buckhead area. So that’s slated to start late December into January. We’re also working on a flagship store which should be around late 2016- early 2017.
What is currently the best-selling LXRY apparel item?
Kaelin: Definitely the Maroon Felt Suede MA-1.
Aside from the current clothing and accessories, do you plan to branch out LXRY APPVREL to other items? Shoes, sunglasses
Kaelin: We’re actually working on shoes. 2016, 😉
What upcoming LXRY apparel items are currently in the works?
Kaelin: We can’t say too much but we have 2 more colors from the Felt Suede MA-1 Collection dropping later next week, those will complete the series for that collection. We may drop one extra rare limited colorway, but after this collection we’re gearing toward shoes and more men’s apparel of course but we’ll definitely be getting into women’s clothing a lot more. Way more.
Where do you see LXRY APPVREL five years from now?
Kaelin: 3 different retail locations. Atlanta, NY, LA. Select retailers worldwide will carry our apparel..
Finally…what advice would you give to people looking to improve their style?
Kaelin: Less is more, but most importantly wear what you feel. Trends are trends but individual style stands out.
