Best Buy to Discontinue DVD and Blu-ray Disc Sales

Best Buy Stop DVD Sales

Best Buy is bidding farewell to DVDs and Blu-ray Discs, following its shift away from physical media in 2018.

The surge of streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, and Netflix has altered the entertainment landscape. Best Buy recently confirmed that, starting in early 2024, it will discontinue the sale of DVDs and Blu-ray Discs both in stores and online, citing industry changes and evolving media consumption habits.

While they’re saying goodbye to these formats, they’ll still be selling physical video games. Physical media revenue in the U.S. has been on the decline, with data from The Digital Entertainment Group showing a drop from $1.05 billion USD in 2022 to $754 million USD in the first half of 2023.
