Bernie Sanders Bashes Nike for Not Paying Federal Taxes

A new report from the nonprofit Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy shows Nike did not pay any federal taxes in the last three years.

Often criticized for his socialist ideologies, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, did not take too kindly to the news. Bernie Sanders decided to single out and bash Nike upon publication of the ITEP report in a now viral tweet.

Bernie took to Twitter to state the following:

“If you paid $120 for a pair of Nike Air Force 1 shoes, you paid more to Nike than it paid in federal income taxes over the past 3 years, while it made $4.1 billion in profits and Nike’s founder, Phil Knight, became over $23 billion richer. Yes. We must #TaxTheRich.”

Nike was not the only company that avoided paying federal taxes in the last three years. The report concludes a total of 26 companies avoided paying federal taxes in the past three years.
