Simin Ghoroghchian, known by her artist name “VERTCHY” is a rising artist who hails from Tehran, Iran. She is an international painter whose had over 25 solo and group exhibitions in France (Lyon), Germany (Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich), United States (New York, Michigan, Los Angeles, Chicago), Norway (Stord), Thailand (Bangkok), Switzerland (Lausanne), and Dubai.
Her style is quite unique as she uses emojis as the centerpiece for all her paintings. VERTCHY believes “emojis are (the) hieroglyphics of our era” and thus uses them as a way to communicate through her art.
Born in 1994, VERTCHY is still young and seems to just be getting started with her career. We had the opportunity to interview the rising international artist on her inspiration, artistic origins, and where she sees his career going next.
How long have you been into art and design?
VERTCHY: I’ve been working as a painter, photographer, and filmmaker since 2012 and in 2020 I started my OriginalEmoj! collection with the focus of bringing my original paintings to fashion and lifestyle of our generation.
What are your favorite designing tools of choice?
VERTCHY: My main material in painting is acrylic color. I also use Corel.
What inspired you to start painting over the Louis Vuitton monogram pattern?
VERTCHY: In “IN PRAISE OF OUR GENERATION” I wanted this collection to have a fancy and classical dignity vibe with that vibe specifically referring to our era! So I chose the iconic brown Louis Vuitton pattern for the background. I think Louis Vuitton is more than a name. I think it is representing a vibe, a lifestyle, a way of living and thinking about the world and its a good representation of our era. I believe when it comes to “IN PRASE OF OUR GENERATION” Louis Vuitton should talk!
Who are some of your art and fashion inspirations? People you look up to.
VERTCHY: I love when I see Virgil Abloh, Murakami, Nigo, etc make the aspect of our generation. However, the thing which I look up to is my vision and my beliefs about our era and my own generation.
What are some of your personal favorite pieces you’ve done?
VERTCHY: I think my answer would be the stuff concealers/toys from OriginalEmoj! collection, I literally cant wait to release them. The idea is totally new and unique. I’m so proud of this collection, I love how these can connect with fashion and everyday life but they can still be a canvas painting. It’s a painting not only for your wall but for your outfit, your lifestyle, to be with you all day like a toy but it can also carry your stuff and conceal them!
What is your favorite artist accomplishment you have achieved?
VERTCHY: Last year I had a dream of painting 1000 acrylic paintings of emojis for OriginalEmoj! products. After much dedication and working fifteen hours per day for about a year my dream became a reality but ten times more! and I was able to create over 10,000 products, ready to (be) released!
In terms of your art career, what do you plan to do next?
VERTCHY: When I move to Los Angeles I want to start making giant sizes of OriginalEmoj! 3D stuffed paintings. Right now it is hard to do this because of the difficulty to ship items.
What advice would you give to aspiring artists who are trying to improve their skills or grow their name and following?
VERTCHY: If you have a dream and it makes you excited, you deserve it and you can achieve it! Make that your first priority and do whatever it takes and don’t waste your time. Don’t let people and their negativity make you forget how simple this formula is. ♦
