It’s a fact that The Shade Room is a powerhouse in the media industry. No one can dispute its immense reach that boasts of reaching up to 32 million individuals weekly. On top of that, its impressions rise above 1.5 billion, with an annual growth rate of over 5 million followers on all social media platforms. With such numbers, this famous media house wields immense power today.

The impressive story of how The Shade Room came about starts back in March, 2014 to be exact. The founder, Angelica Nwandu set up an Instagram account during this time. Today, The Shade Room boasts over 20 million subscribers on all social media platforms with a global reach.

Angelina Nwandu is the founder of the popular Instagram-based media company The Shade Room. The company’s primary focus has always been celebrity gossip, but it now focuses on politics, fashion, business, and a variety of other topics as well.

Angelica was born in Los Angeles, and her parents are originally from Nigeria. Her life was turned up-side-down when her father killed her mother, plunging her into foster care at 6 years old. Her love for writing came through after joining Peace4Kids, which is a program for foster youth.

After graduating from high school, she joined Loyola Marymount University. It’s here that she nurtured her love for writing despite studying something totally different; accounting. After completing her college education, she landed a job at an accounting firm while pursuing her CPA.

At this point in Angelica’s life, writing had taken a back seat as she pursued her accounting career. However, the monotony in her accounting career made her start writing once more, and she got a chance to take part in writing a script. Angelica wanted to set up a blog for her work, but she didn’t have enough money to set up a website.

She then decided that the next best thing was to post on her Instagram page, which started attracting attention. Initially, her social media posts were about celebrity gossip; a niche she pursued after a friend advised her to do it. It was different from script writing, but she tried it out anyway. The amazing thing was within the first 10 days of her initial post she had over 10,000 followers. She continued to talk some more about celebrities and this increased her followers to more than 500,000.

As more and more celebrities started following The Shade Room, the platform got even more engagement and then took off to new heights. The Shade Room now has more than 17.7 million followers on Instagram alone.

The rapid growth, according to Angelica, is a result of hiring the right people at every step. She attributes the success of the company to her fantastic team. The Shade Room team has a total of 20 people  covering all departments and they are all based in Los Angeles, CA.

Additionally, Angelica is thankful for her loyal online community that has been with her since the day she first put up her first post. In the beginning, she ensured that everyone received prompt responses to their comments and views.

In 6 short years, Angelica has managed to create a business that’s now thriving. Angelica Nwandu now has her eyes set on script writing once more, which is her initial passion. However, The Shade Room is still her baby and still has room to grow even more.
