If you were surprised by the results of the 2016 election, you are certainly not alone. Electing Donald Trump to office, a man with no prior political experience and more contentious opinions than Steven Crowder, took nearly everyone by surprise, from media outlets to the American public. But there is another story that got much less airtime than this one, the announcement by Kanye West that he will be running for office.
The more time goes by, the more it seems Kanye really is trying to infiltrate every market on the planet. He went from producing beats to fulfilling his dreams of building a successful rap career, followed by taking the world of sneakers and fashion by storm with his Yeezy line, and finally, to take the cake, marrying Kim Kardashian. He has seen huge success in all of his endeavors, but his announcement of a 2020 bid for the presidency would allow him to infiltrate yet another totally unique industry.
Since all of the previously mentioned successes didn’t seem to be enough, it kind of makes sense that Kanye would run for president. After all, he’s accomplished pretty much every other goal he has come up with, why not shoot for one of the most powerful positions in the world?
As with most of his other proclamations, Kanye turned to Twitter, the same method used by presidents since George Washington to announce their plan to run for office, to say “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States!” The tweet, as of July 7, has 1.2 million likes and over 500 thousand retweets, proving either that Kanye could make a legitimate run at Donald Trump or that people on Twitter really just don’t have anything better to do.

The Kanye presidency could be an incredibly interesting turn in American politics, from the potential remix of the classic “Star Spangled Banner” to the fact that a Kardashian would be the First Lady of the United States. The latter of these possibilities is really the most interesting, though. Just imagine how good Keeping Up with The Kardashians would be for the four seasons of Kanye’s presidency. We would gain unprecedented access to everything going on in the White House (plus Khloé and Kourtney’s latest drama). If in fact they manage to produce the show without breaching national security.
The bottom line, though, is that all other presidential candidates should be shaking in their boots right about now. After all, Kanye has achieved literally everything else he has set out to do, raising his net worth to over $1 billion in the process. Why would a presidential bid be any different? Turns out you don’t need political experience, basic manners, or even the majority of people voting for you to get into office. Just look at the current president. And if 2016 was any indication, anything can happen.

Kanye West has announced he will be running under the new political ‘Birthday Party’ because according to him, “when we win, it’s everybody’s birthday.” Kanye also talked about how he will receive guidance from Elon Musk for his campaign in a new Forbes interview.
