California State University, Dominguez Hills Receives AACSB Accreditation

As a California State University, Dominguez Hills student, I am happy to announce CSUDH has just officially received AACSB accreditation. For those unfamiliar with the AACSB organization it stands for Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. AACSB was founded in 1916 to provide accreditation to schools of business.

Approximately less than 5 percent of more than 16,000 business schools worldwide providing business degrees have earned AACSB accreditation. Cal State Dominguez Hills is the latest school to be added to the list!

As a fellow Toro, I am extremely proud. Campus president, Thomas A. Parham, Ph.D., just sent an email to the campus community with the grand announcement. That means to all CSUDH students that are part of the College of Business Administration and Public Policy (CBAPP), your degree has just become that much more valuable.

President Thomas A. Parham, Ph.D. stated in his email to all fellow ToroMail recipients:

“CBAPP was commended in several areas of the AACSB Self Evaluation Report, but what I was particularly pleased to see them acknowledge was how the undergraduate education the college provides helps transform the lives of its students and the communities in which they work and live. Additionally, the report found an overall enthusiasm and passion that permeates the college, something that I have witnessed firsthand.”

As a result of the AACSB accreditation process, CSUDH had to suspend its MBA program which I happen to be a part of. It had been reported earlier that although its undergraduate program met all the standards, the graduate program did not.

As the accreditation process continued through fall 2019, the college had three choices to choose from if it wanted to get AACSB accreditation: gain accreditation for the undergraduate program and get rid of the master’s program, gain accreditation for the undergraduate program and put the master’s program on a suspension and try to improve and reevaluate it in two years, or lose accreditation for both programs. Dominguez Hills decided to get rid of the master’s program.

That means, I am officially part of the last class ever to graduate from California State University, Dominguez Hills with an MBA degree. While I am upset that the MBA program is closing, I am happy all undergraduate students will now have business degrees that are accredited by the most prestigious business school organization. It is believed business M.S. programs will replace the MBA program but has not been confirmed by university officials yet.

I am actually graduating this summer 2020 from CSUDH. While I can’t say my time at CSUDH was as good as my undergraduate time at California State University, Northridge, I still have nice memories from Dominguez Hills. I will miss the CSUDH University Library as well as eating Taco Bell at the Loker Student Union. For all future Toros, I recommend you become involved in campus as much as possible. Whether you join a fraternity/sorority, or a club, college is always best when you are involved on campus.

Congratulations to all business California State University, Dominguez Hills students…your price just went up!
