His real name is Rakim Mayers but you may know him as A$AP Rocky, the american rapper, producer, and director from New York. Although he’s known mostly for his music, he is also well known for his fashion sense making him a fashion icon worldwide. The world fashion figure explains that fashion is not something that he picked up on once he got into the industry but instead he always had a natural liking for fashion way back from when he was a kid.
These days his style is being influenced by mostly designers who design the stuff he wants to wear. Since he arrived on the scene in 2011, ASAP Rocky has attending multiple fashion shows showing his love for the art and certain fashion designers including Dior Homme shows and also sitting front row at J.W.Anderson’s shows in London. In this list, we will provide the many fashion collaborations ASAP Rocky has been a part of.
Guess
Back in 2016 ASAP did a fashion collaboration with the forever nostalgic vintage clothing brand Guess. When gathering ideas for what he wanted this collab to look like he went back and thought about being a child again. What came to mind specifically was treehouses from the 90s and thinking of his favorite technology movies. The collection included overalls, a two-tone bomber jacket, denim jackets, and striped tees. “I just felt like there was a void of information, of knowledge, about how Guess played a big role in urban fashion and urban culture in general in the late ’80s and early ’90s. That’s just missing. I felt it was time to revamp that and just give it a little more juice and some new edge, and here we are,” he explained in an interview about the collaboration. “There’s no denying how influential Guess was on hip-hop culture, even with the denim being the first acid-wash jean. They invented that. If you know your denims, you know that. This is history with Paul Marciano.”
Dior
Wait a second, let’s get all of this correct. He’s a rapper, producer, fashion icon, and also a MODEL? Yes, back in 2016 Pretty Flacko became the face of Dior Homme. He has not only did fashion collaborations where he put his spin on things to produce a collection but has also posed in front of the camera for Dior’s FW16 campaign. Stepping out of the design room and onto set for a photoshoot makes this man even more involved then he already was in the fashion industry. This is another form of an A$AP Rocky fashion collaboration. “When it comes to Dior, it’s just prestige and elegance in my opinion,” ASAP Rocky told WWD.
Under Armour
If collaborating on clothing wasn’t enough, Rocky has also joined forces with Under Amour and a legendary skater of Osiris D3 designer Dave Mayhew to produce what is now know as the Under Armour SRLo sneaker. The release date took place in September 14, 2018. He held a “skate rave” in Harlem with a limited released of 500 pairs of sneakers, all of which instantly sold out. Rocky explained in an interview that although the shoe has skate influences, “it’s targeted to be a rave sneaker more than anything, because I don’t really like lounges and clubs,” He then went on to say they are geared towards going to mosh pits, getting wild, jumping on people’s backs and just having a good time. This is the perfect shoe for that. The shoes come with tape that has wording on it that you can put on the sneakers. The retail price of the shoes are $250.
J.W. Anderson
A$AP Rocky x J.W. Anderson is yet another fashion collaboration that he was excited to see come together. Pretty Flacko expressed that him and J.W. met through mutual friends and after getting to know each other they decided to come together to create art. Rocky has explained that he was obsessed with the collection prior to collaborating because he fancies all the mock necks, turtlenecks, and square zippers that the brand creates. He also loved the furs that he once wore from the other previous collections and even wore one of his pieces in the music video for “Jukebox Joints.” They kept with the core inspiration of the brand to make a mixture of those pieces. The outcome of this collaborative duo consists of two faux fur jackets, hats, two track jackets, and track pants in a knitted material with all original color ways and original silhouettes.
Calvin Klein
ASAP Rocky has had an ongoing close friendship with Calvin Klein fashion designer Raf Simons since the year 2016. He has attended multiple fashion shows with Calvin Klein and has even been in campaigns for the brand. With the relationship being so close why not collab with each other right? So that’s what they did. The limited edition release date was in October 2018 on amazon. As you can see on the back of the jacket Rocky decided to put his own artwork from his album “TESTING.” Many buyers who have purchased the item have said that is a bit oversized with a clean and simple feel making it easy to match up with majority of the clothes in your closet. The price for this A$AP fashion collaborative jacket is $129. A$AP Rocky has also served as a model for the brand on many occasions.
