Have you heard of Billie Eilish? Of course you have. The 17 year old singer is arguably the most popular pop star in the world at the moment with her recent smash hit ‘Bad Guy’. While Billie Eilish is not too big on collaborations, one collaboration she recently did commit to was with Freak City L.A. clothing. No they are not a grunge band, but the latest emerging fashion brand to come out of Los Angeles, California. They may not be making waves on the radio, but they definitely are making a splash in the fashion scene.
Billie Eilish is not the first celebrity to embrace Freak City LA clothing. You may remember Kim Kardashian recently take social media by storm when she was out in Miami with a flamingo pink hot dress. Well she was matching that dress with a Freak City bag. Nicki Minaj, Cuban Doll, Bhad Bhabie, and Paris Hilton are among other celebrities that have been seen supporting and wearing the brand.
However, Freak City isn’t simply just clothing. Freak City L.A. is also an independent record label, a design studio, a clothing gallery, and a party venue. Rising rap superstar, BlueFace, recently filmed his ‘No Witness’ video there. If you think Freak City L.A. has gained attention overnight, think again. The brand has roots dating all the way back to 2008 and was founded by ‘Valley Girl’ and ‘streetboi’.
What makes Freak City L.A. different from all the other clothing brands out there? For one, as mentioned previously, they are not just a clothing brand. They are also a record label and party venue. Also, their designs are pretty unique. You can spot a Freak City clothing item from miles away as their color selection typically consists of bright, hot neon colors. Their clothing is for both men and women. Typically, an emerging brand focuses on one gender only but not Freak City. They got clothing for both genders and then some. Also, don’t expect everybody at your Friday night party to have the same Freak City clothing item as you. Many of their pieces are available in limited quantities for a limited time. As their webshop claims:
“MO$T OF THE ITEM$ FEATURED ON THI$ $ITE ARE CU$TOM MADE TO ORDER. EACH I$ AN ART PIECE MADE WITH LOVE.“
Many Freak City clothing items also take a spin on very popular brands. For example, one of their newest pieces which is a glow-in-the-dark fluorescent green hoodie which states ‘Freak’ on the chest, is a spin on the widely popular Prada branding. It’s almost as if Freak City is telling all brands move over… we got next in the fashion scene.
Despite the fact Freak City has been in business for years, it still feels like an emerging underground brand. There is still so much more to know about the brand and its founders which I’m sure we will learn more about in the coming years. Freak City L.A. sort of feels like The Weeknd back in 2011, it has a huge buzz, but it still hasn’t became a global superstar. Nonetheless, one thing is for sure…if you are into spicing things up with your outfits, Freak City LA is definitely a brand to check out if you haven’t already. There wild and unique off-the-wall style is nothing like anything out right now. While there social media following isn’t in the millions, it soon may will be. Just like Billie Eilish is the next huge superstar, Freak City L.A. is well on its way to being the next big clothing brand.
