Pusha T recently revealed he once encouraged Kanye West to launch his own fashion empire, but West didn’t act on the advice.
In a recent interview for GQ, Pusha T mentions an email he sent to West (now Ye), proposing a fashion house conglomerate lead by Kanye.
Pusha T pointed to Virgil Abloh, Jerry Lorenzo, and Don C—key Yeezy contributors and respected designers—as potential pillars for a collective akin to LVMH. Abloh notably served as Louis Vuitton’s menswear artistic director from 2018 until his death in 2021.
“That man knows that I was the only person who told him like, ‘Hey, man, Virgil got his line poppin… Why don’t you make your own LVMH, bro? You got Virgil. You got Yeezy. You have Just Don’s…His issue with me is because I’m always the truth-teller.”
During West’s early fashion pursuits, Pusha T observed him aiming for a Louis Vuitton-level role while downplaying the independent ventures of Abloh, Lorenzo, and others. Pusha T noted West’s huge influence on fashion, raising the LVMH conglomerate idea in a call and later an email, but it went nowhere.
“I said, ‘Yo, what you really need to do is’ — Virgil was doing Pyrex Vision back then — I was like, ‘Yo, what all (your boys) are doing, you need to just round that up, because everybody dressing like all of y’all anyway. And put that under your shit,'” Pusha said.
Later, when West was upset about Lorenzo’s Pacsun deal, Pusha T reminded him of his earlier suggestion.
“I said, ‘Go back to that email…Bro, I told you. I told you a long time ago that you should’ve been the head of the collective.'”
