As we head towards fourth quarter of 2023, ‘Super Mario Bros.’ has been dethroned and is no longer the highest-grossing movie of the year.
‘Barbie’ now holds the crown for the highest-grossing movie of 2023 in the United States after it surpassed Mario’s $574.2 million mark with $575.4 million at the American box office. What makes the feat even more impressive for ‘Barbie’ is it reached that record breaking figure in a much faster time period than ‘Super Mario Bros.’ reaching the figure in only 34 days while it took Mario and Luigi 138 days to reach their mark.
‘Barbie’ is still in theaters which means the figure will only continue to grow. With only four months left in the year, it will be hard for another movie to knock ‘Barbie’ off the throne for the 2023 record.
