Lululemon leggings- you know them, you love them and your wallet hates them.
First time consumers, and even loyal buyers find themselves asking the same question time and time again, are they overrated? And if they aren’t, are they overpriced?
The fan favorite company has been around since the late 90s, but reached pivotal success in 2015. Beauty Youtubers by the likes of Bethany Mota and MyLifeasEva (Eva Gutowski) wore and advocated for the leggings and company on their channels.
Since then, the company has fostered and taken the athleisure world by storm with their perfected version of the classic ‘legging.’
The classic legging is such a simple item that many companies produce, making it hard not to wonder if it is worth the attention or if it’s just another overrated product.
The leggings themselves range from a price point of $100-$120, which is a pricy investment for a singular piece of clothing.
While the price point is steep, the quality of the legging is hard to beat and is exactly what they are cracked up to be.
The leggings are engineered to be non-slip and firming while working out and in daily life. The legging is even squat proof, meaning that the material is not translucent, making it even more appealing to legging wearers alike.
Its claim to fame, and reason for being overpriced, is the specially designed “luon” fabric, which prevents odor and sweat from penetrating from the clothing. Luon is composed mostly of nylon, and part Lycra, as detailed in the Lululemon website.
At the time of their conception, the clothing technology was revolutionary, therefore giving justifiable reason to invest in the leggings. Now, with a boom of competitors selling similar quality products for a fraction of the cost, Lululemon is in fact proven to be overpriced.
Reddit users on the Lululemon discussions thread are unanimously in agreement that Lululemon is overpriced.
Users mention brands such as “Under Armor” and “Aerie” in substitution for options that won’t break the bank and still uphold the same performance integrity of Lululemon.
The viral Aerie OFFLINE leggings are incredibly soft and lightweight, making it difficult to want to take them off! Not to mention, the cut is incredibly flattering for all body types.
The recent influence of Tik Tok has sold out Amazon storefronts such as, ColorfulKoala that include that renowned quality of Lululemon without the burden of being overpriced.
Reviewers of ColorfulKoala say that the leggings, “look and feel like Lululemon.” Reviewers also mention, “the seams and design of the legging are more flattering than Lululemons.”
Adjacent leggings with budget friendly prices include Old Navy PowerPress leggings that are only $30 but are often on sale for much cheaper.
With so many options, my personal favorite that I’ve kept a secret long enough is drumroll…
Danskin Costco leggings! My grandma got them for me one Christmas, and I instantly fell in love with how buttery soft the material was and how well they stayed up during a workout.
The best part of them is that they are only $10!!! Everytime I go to Costco I stock up in every color, and highly recommend them to everyone looking for a solid Lululemon alternative.
With all of the new legging alternatives available, you no longer need to spend a pretty penny on leggings that will make you look and above all else, feel great!
