April is here which means the countdown to Hulu’s new show “The Kardashians” begins. The move to Hulu came after the Kardashian-Jenner family ended their notorious E! reality show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” after a 20 season run.
After a short hiatus the family returns, eager to get fans caught up on what they’ve missed.
“I am really excited about the show on Hulu,” Kim told Variety. “We really have no restrictions.”
While the show appears to follow a similar look to the late seasons of KUWTK, fans can expect a closer look into the sister’s professional lives amidst the drama.
“It’s different sides that maybe the E! audience wasn’t into. Our business ventures or my law school journey and stuff like that,” said Kim.
The documentary style series is set to air on Hulu on April 14, 2022.
Everything appears to be on the table in the two-minute trailer for the Hulu series.
We see glimpses of Kourtney and Travis Barker’s relationship, press circling a presumably pregnant Kylie and the aftermath of Kim’s divorce from Kanye West, including her relationship with SNL comedian Pete Davidson.
The trailer also shows an emotional Khloé say, “Why are we always making excuses for the people that traumatize us?” As for momager Kris, she’s right where you’d think she’d be — the office.
The Kardashian-Jenners began their reality TV debut with “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” in 2007. The show followed the hectic lives of sisters Kourtney, Kim and Khloé and their Brady Bunch-esque family.
Over the 20 seasons, the show featured relationships, marriages, divorces, babies and scandals. Despite the drama, one thing always remained — family.
Later seasons of KUWTK seemed to lack relatability and sincerity. The show became increasingly boring between absurd pranks, over-the-top parties and petty arguments.
According to CheatSheet, fans became disinterested in the show because “none of them were sharing everything about their lives.” What the family did share became “less and less relatable.”
Looking back, the only crave-worthy drama was Kim and Khloe’s frustration with Kourtney’s lack of participation on the show that led to a physical altercation. Everything else felt like filler material and it reflected in the show’s low ratings.
“Episodes of KUWTK season 20 have altogether been the lowest of the franchise’s history as well, with none of the episodes making it to one million viewers. The prior 19th season also seemed to struggle with making it to the millions,” according to Fansided.
Despite low ratings for the final seasons of KUWTK, the internet still had a lot to say about the announcement of the new Hulu series.
On a recent Reddit thread, fans discussed what they would like to see on “The Kardashians.”
One Reddit user said, “I need an escape from my normal life. I’m not watching a show to see someone working. Even if it is 100x more glamorous than my job.”
Another user wrote, “I want mostly the drama, their personal lives and success/ lifestyle. I don’t care about their meetings with their business partners and employees that much or what product is launching next.”
Twitter users also expressed their opinions about the show.
One Twitter user wrote, “So the #kardashians stopped doing their show ‘cause it went on too long and they were tired of the cameras following them only to immediately do the exact same show on #Hulu?”

Another Twitter user said, “I’ve never watched one episode of KUWTK but to see this messy Kanye and Pete drama, I’m for sure watching “The Kardashians” on Hulu. I’m not better than ya’ll.”

My verdict? The show will fail. Of course, fans and casual viewers will tune in to see Kourtney and Travis’ whirlwind romance and Kim’s very public divorce from Kanye West.
However, fans don’t seem eager to dive into the sister’s professional lives. The drama is really the only driving force for the show.
The series could be a success if the family can bring on the juicy drama, touch on some level of relatability and avoid making the show one big ad for their personal brands.
