World renown fashion designer, Virgil Abloh, has passed away at the age of 41 after battling cancer in private for the past two years. Unbeknownst to many, Virgil had been battling a rare type of cancer known as cardiac angiosarcoma.
An official statement to his Instagram said:
“For over two years, Virgil valiantly battled a rare, aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma. He chose to endure his battle privately since his diagnosis in 2019, undergoing numerous challenging treatments, all while helming several significant institutions that span fashion, art, and culture.”
Virgil started his career as the creative director for Kanye West and then founded the high-end streetwear brand Off-White. At the time of passing, Virgil was serving as the first-ever Black artistic director at Louis Vuitton.
Abloh’s influence and vision helped revolutionize fashion, streetwear, and design to what it is today. Rest in peace to one of the greatest to ever do it!
